The cause of most workplace accidents and incidents is directly related to human failure and error. Behavioural-based safety is frequently turned to when organisations have reached a plateau in their safety performance and the only logical step left in reducing the risk of accidents is to encourage the more active involvement of operatives themselves.
The 8th Annual Behavioural-Based Safety Conference 2012 focuses on equipping senior managers and decision-makers with the tools and expertise required to significantly reduce the risk of accidents in the workplace.
The aim of implementing BBS in an organisation is to get all employees to view safety in the same way and in a continuous, unconscious manner. This is obviously easier said than done - how can you get an employee to view safety on the work floor in accordance with your requirements if they don’t view safety in that way when they leave work? This conference will look at how to instill a culture of BBS throughout the workplace and how to make safety a priority when recruiting, training and rewarding employees.
The main challenge that industry is faced with is ensuring a safe, incident free work area, but this is one of the most difficult things to do, as human error cannot be eliminated. This event will look at the different approaches and initiatives that South African companies are undertaking, what has worked and what hasn’t and what you, as a BBS professional, can learn from their experiences.
